This is a 2000 sq ft farmhouse built on a 400-acre old home place. The original farmhouse from the 1800's is “over yonder”. This new house is conceived as a sister house in the style similar to farmhouses in the area. The design has the massing and scale of a farmhouse, while at the same time having a well organized plan and open interior with vaulted ceilings. I have always been fascinated by the 1900 era farm houses in Tennessee. There is a wonderful way that they fit in the landscape yet allow additions to expand the main frame over time. Since the house is on a rise, the second floor porch boasts a distant view of the countryside.
