I love this church because it is a neighborhood church. The congregation had a very traditional red brick church from the 1920’s that they had outgrown. They wanted a dynamic contemporary spacious building for their new sanctuary. The 50-person choir needed more space to contain their larger than life gospel sound. They were limited by a sloping site and the amount of adjacent urban land they could acquire.  The result is one large building wrapping around a landscaped courtyard. The tower form serves to unite the old and the new as well as contain stairs and an elevator. The new sanctuary provides a larger volume while creating an intimacy with the alter at the same time.
