This is an Art Gallery in the Design Building, in Houston, Texas.

The existing gallery doubled in size by accruing the next-door space. We wanted to keep the original entrance, while designing the plan to carry you into the new space. We used the front desk shape to do that by literally breaking through the wall and curving into the new space.
We layered the new space from front to back. The shelves against the window hold sculpture and ceramics so passers by might be intrigued and come in. At the very back we have a lit painting wall to help pull the patron deeper in. The shelving designs are custom steel fabricated by a local sculptor. The use of glass block and glass shelves allow the natural light at the front to create myriad reflections. The angled wall in the first space creates smaller viewing rooms to help define smaller galleries within the large one. The stairs are directional so they send you back in another direction. This is like maze design.

Perfect for entrapping the visitor so he can stay long enough to view the wonderful art objects within the store.
